February 2024
Dear AAPIPers,
As we navigate a complicated and chaotic start to the year, and reflect on past and present struggles for racial and social justice, we are reminded we are not alone.
As we continue to dream big and organize, we remind you that AAPIP’s 35th Anniversary Conference is on the horizon, and general registration is now open. Please join us in Chicago to honor our decades-long commitment to racial solidarity, equity and justice, and to further work towards our vision for a future where Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities are valued, engaged, and safe.
In community,
AAPIP

AAPIP has partnered with Chinese for Affirmative Action to launch a three-part Learning Series: Protecting Race-Explicit Programming. The series is intended to (re)situate Asian Americans within the broader conversations around civil rights, and affirmative action specifically; provide an overview of the current legal landscape with an emphasis on how race conscious programs can still thrive despite the Supreme Court decision and new executive actions; and develop tangible, collective actions to support an infrastructure within philanthropy and beyond for race-explicit grantmaking, programs, and policies. Above all, these advocacy conversations will be a reminder that this is the time to bebrave, creative, and resilient.
Session 2 Webinar Description: Join us for the second session of the learning series where we will have a conversation about the current state of the law and how litigation has been used successfully and unsuccessfully to expand or constrain civil rights. Learn how foundations and organizations can assess their risk, prepare for new attacks against DEI in the coming year, and why philanthropy can and should continue to prioritize race-explicit grantmaking and programming.
If you missed the first session, you can view the webinar recording here. More relevant resources are also linked in the "Resource" section of this email (below).
We'd like to welcome Pajouablai Monica Lee onto the AAPIP team as our new Director of Chapter Strategy and Engagement. Previously, Monica served as the most recent Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives Consultant with Everyday Impact Consulting (EIC) where she secured multiple grants for her clients who serve BIPOC communities throughout central and northern California. Prior to EIC, she served as the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Outreach for the White House Initiative on AA and NHPIs. Congratulations, Monica!
We'd also like to welcome Casey Tran as our new Membership & Partnerships Coordinator. Casey joins AAPIP with several years of experience in fundraising and donor organizing, having worked at Chinese Progressive Association and Asian Law Caucus. Most recently, she was a Multicultural Fellow at the San Francisco Foundation where she focused on learning and evaluation. Looking forward to working with you, Casey!
AAPIP is in deep appreciation for the ongoing support from our 400+ member network who join us in supporting AANHPI people in philanthropy and working to increase the scale and impact of philanthropic resources aimed at advancing the inclusion, health, and wellbeing of AANHPI communities in the pursuit of a more just and equitable society.
