August 2025

Dear AAPIPers,

The numbers are stark: after 35 years of advocacy, AANHPI communities still receive just 34 cents of every $100 in foundation giving. Our new 2025 AANHPI Funding Snapshot reveals what we've long known—philanthropy's investment in our communities remains alarmingly inadequate.

But this season of transition calls for both clarity about the problem and collective action toward solutions. With Connie Chung Joe now at AAPIP's helm, we're building the power to close the funding gap through sustained relationship-building, deep learning, and showing up for each other consistently.

As we move from summer into fall and prepare for critical gatherings like the UNITY Summit, we're reminded that transformation happens when we combine fierce advocacy with community care. The challenges facing our communities—from anti-Asian hate to the targeted deportations of immigrants without due process to philanthropic disinvestment—demand our full presence and unwavering solidarity.

We're ready to build the change our communities deserve.

In Community,
AAPIP

2025 AANHPI Funding Snapshot

We dropped some updated findings last month. Our new 2025 AANHPI Funding Snapshot shows that AANHPI communities still receive just 34 cents for every $100 in U.S. institutional funding. The report covers the latest data available from Candid (2019-2023) and reveals both the persistent underfunding and the massive opportunity ahead. Read the full report and share it with any funders or allies who need to see these numbers.

Funder Briefing

AAPIP recently partnered with GCIR and Philanthropy New York for a critical briefing on the Trump administration's executive order attacking birthright citizenship. Legal advocates are winning 94% of cases in lower courts, but the Supreme Court's recent ruling limiting nationwide injunctions has fundamentally changed how civil rights organizations must fight unconstitutional executive actions. AAPIP Vice President of Programs Courtney Chappell recaps the historical context, current legal strategy, and specific funding priorities philanthropic professionals need to understand as this constitutional battle heads toward the Supreme Court.
